Thai Goverment warned of covert warfare by red shirts

Puea Thai party has warned the government to prepare for a clandestine offensive now it has driven the red-shirt protesters underground.

Worawat Ua-apinyakul, a Puea Thai MP for Phrae, said the red shirts have hung up their shirts and gone into hiding since the dispersal of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship demonstration in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Their activities will now be harder to monitor, Mr Worawat said.

Dispersing them was a mistake because when the protesters came together to rally, they had leaders with known whereabouts.

Arresting the protest leaders will set the protesters loose. Protests may have ended in Bangkok, but in the provinces underground activity still carries on, he said.

"How will they resist this covert struggle? The violence will be far worse than the situation in the deep South," Mr Worawat said.
